CYO Game Swap Rules
Only email our office with the swap details when all coaches have agreed to the swap and cc all coaches involved.
Teams involved need to coordinate game swaps, not CYO.
1.) Only whole games can be swapped - no swapping of opponents. All coaches of the teams involved in the swap must agree to the swap and be included on the CYO notification. CYO does not coordinate the swap. At the beginning of each season, a list of coaches will be emailed to all teams for contact information purposes.
EXCEPTIONS: FLAG FOOTBALL AND 3RD/4TH GRADE VB AND BB: As we do not keep standings, it is acceptable to swap your opponent rather than whole games as long as the swap does not cause any of the teams involved to play a team twice in the season. FOR 5TH - 8TH GRADE VB, only whole groupings (VB tris and quads) can be swapped.
Find the schedule by location to assist in locating potential swaps at https://cyojwa.org/multi-location-calendar
2.) Games can be swapped only in the following manners and the same criteria applies if swapping to an open slot at a gym. These criteria are required due to officiating crew assignments, gym assignments and other factors:
a. Basketball only - 3rd grade girls games must be swapped with only 3rd grade girls games. This is due to basket height differences.
b. 3rd grade boys, all genders 4th grade through all genders 8th grade games can only be swapped with 3rd grade boys, 4th grade all genders through 8th grade all gender games but the gyms for the swapped games must be appropriate for the age group.
c. Basketball only - high school boy’s games must be swapped with only high school boy’s games, and high school girl’s games must be swapped with only high school girl’s games.
d. Games can only be swapped into gyms already in use and staffed for regularly scheduled CYO games that weekend. Games played at any other times or locations are not sanctioned by CYO and will be considered forfeits and losses by all teams involved.
3.) CYO must be notified by email (admin@cyojwa.org, john@cyojwa.org) of the swap by Wednesday at noon the week of the game. The email subject line must read in all caps: CYO SWAP with the gender and divisions. For example, CYO SWAP BOY 6AA AND GIRLS 5A. The body of the email must include the gender, exact divisions, exact team names, gyms and game times being swapped. All coaches involved must be copied on the email. Game swaps are final when CYO confirms receipt of the swap. If a game swap is denied, games will be played as previously scheduled.
